Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night because you heard a loud splashing noise underneath your house? I have.
A few weeks ago, I’m home alone, when at around midnight, I start hearing loud a banging downstairs. I run downstairs, thinking that the wind knocked something around outside, but the sound’s coming from BELOW. The banging turns to loud splashing. (It sounded like I had two seals fighting between the logs of my house, directly beneath my kitchen.) I run outside but it’s pouring, so all I hear is the rain hitting the deck and river, but I see waves coming away from the house, apparently caused by the fighting (or frolicking) of a river mammal.
Fast forward one week, and Jared calls me at work telling me he heard the splashing sound again, and that he was able to take a video. Looks like it was an otter (or two) instead of a seal–you can see the shape of an otter on top of one of the logs, and definitely hear the distinct otter chirp.
